Pagosa Springs, CO – Project Sanctuary is honored to announce the appointment of two new members to the Board of Directors to help support the nonprofit’s work in helping at-risk military families heal and move forward in life. This brings the board member total to fifteen.
“We’re excited to expand our board with two new Directors who will bring much-needed expertise and insight to our work through their mental health and financial expertise,” said Project Sanctuary Founder and CEO Heather Ehle Ray. “We have worked diligently to ensure Project Sanctuary’s board and leadership represents a variety of passionate and diverse professionals willing and honored to serve our military families”.
The new board members began their term with Project Sanctuary, effective July 2024. The two new board members are:

Audrey Hockman – Licensed Mental Health Counselor
Audrey is an Air Force Veteran, married to an Air Force Veteran, currently residing in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. She is an advocate for health, healing, and serving others. Audrey is successful in counseling and working with diverse/multi-cultural, multi-age populations currently and during her military career. She brings a wealth of experience and passion working in multiple healthcare settings to include non-profit, military, clinics, and hospitals.

Stephanie Otero, CPA
Stephanie currently serves as the Associate Director, Not-For-Profit Section for The American Institute of CPAs. She comes to Project Sanctuary with a background in non-profit leadership alongside her professional accounting and financial experience. With a true understanding of how non-profits operate, Stephanie is committed to driving financial sustainability and amplifying the impact of Project Sanctuary.
Ehle Ray continues, “These extraordinary individuals are joining us at a very exciting time as Project Sanctuary continues to grow and as we celebrate our 300th therapeutic retreat in Stanwood, Washington this July! Project Sanctuary has supported 2,565 military families since our first retreat in 2007.”
Since its inception, Project Sanctuary has focused on one mission: to transform, empower, and heal military families. Providing relationship reconnection, communication and conflict resolution, financial habitude and mental health / wellbeing in an immersive therapeutic retreat environment, Project Sanctuary has built a national reputation for delivering the support military families need and deserve. Offered in multiple locations around the United States, Project Sanctuary retreats are staffed by licensed counselors, certified recreational therapists, and culturally competent military veterans and are open to military family members, caregivers, active-duty personnel, and veterans. Pre and Post retreat case management services are provided by our social work team, ensuring that our families are supported and moving forward. Project Sanctuary believes when one person serves, the whole family serves, and all are given the tools and resources needed to start and continue their healing journey.
