GRANBY, CO (August 28, 2018) – Project Sanctuary has expanded its development team with the appointment of a new Chief Development Officer and the addition of two newly created positions. Amy McDermott, a military spouse and marketing expert, has been named Project Sanctuary’s Chief Development Officer, while fundraising veteran Michael Jordan will serve as the organization’s new Major Gifts Officer, and Emily Williams will join Project Sanctuary as Director of Events and Volunteers.
“We consider ourselves very lucky to have landed such a talented team of fundraising professionals to help us continue fulfilling our mission of helping families connect and heal,” said Project Sanctuary Founder and CEO Heather Ehle. “I have no doubt that the skills Amy, Michael and Emily bring to the table will play a crucial role in fueling our growth.”
McDermott most recently served as the Development and Marketing Manager for zero8hundred, a non-profit that helps veterans and their loved ones transition to civilian life. She has also worked in senior level development, communications and operations positions for police and fire departments and public charter schools. The wife of a senior Navy officer with more than 24 years of service, McDermott also sat on the Executive Board of the Naval Officers Spouses Club of San Diego.
Jordan, who hails from a military family, has dedicated his life to non-profit endeavors. He was a director of Make-A-Wish America and founder of the Aspen Forward Foundation, which provides fundraising solutions to help non-profits grow. He has also served as Business Development Manager for American Red Cross. A former real estate attorney, Michael discovered a passion for community service after providing pro bono legal representation for children in cases involving adoption, child custody or divorce.
Williams and her family graduated from Project Sanctuary, and she has served as a frequent volunteer for the organization since completing the program. A breast cancer survivor, Williams worked as a Volunteer and Affiliate Coordinator for Susan G. Komen in Colorado Springs before joining Project Sanctuary. She is currently pursuing a degree in business administration.
Project Sanctuary focuses on strengthening military families during the stressful times of deployment, transition and reintegration, offering therapeutic opportunities nationwide. Since its founding over a decade ago, the non-profit has served more than 1,200 families, using an evidence-based approach that combines coursework, counseling and recreational activities to reconnect and empower families. In 2018, Project Sanctuary will host 30 therapeutic retreats in eight states and will continue outreach to the 2,200 families on its wait list to provide pre-retreat assessment and crisis intervention.
