February Staff Spotlight- Jeanne Hastings, CTRS

Project Sanctuary's greatest strength is our dedicated staff, who are the driving force behind our amazing therapeutic retreats and family support program. That's why we are so pleased to continue our Staff Spotlight series, highlighting the incredible team members who are serving our military families day in and day out.

Today, we will be highlighting Jeanne Hastings, CTRS!

Describe your role with Project Sanctuary:

I work with Project Sanctuary as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, CTRS.  The CTRS facilitates therapeutic recreational programs that promote family bonding and skills. During family retreats the CTRS works directly with Teens and Youths utilizing recreation to educate and promote self- awareness, communication and provide education concerning post traumatic growth utilizing recreation as an intervention for learning. When not working with individual groups the CTRS plans and coordinates therapeutic recreational programs that promote family cohesiveness through fun and adventure-based activities. The CTRS works directly with families to develop leisure and recreational skills and develop resources that they can utilize once they return home.

What led you to working with Project Sanctuary:

I just happen to see a job opportunity on Facebook from Project Sanctuary looking to hire a CTRS. I immediately thought that this would be a wonderful opportunity for a CTRS that wishes to utilize their skills working with the veteran population. The more I learned about the position and the mission of Project Sanctuary the more I felt that the position would be a great fit for me.

What is your most meaningful moment with Project Sanctuary:

It is so hard to choose just one meaningful moment with Project Sanctuary because there are just so many. Seeing the positive changes in our families from day to day is amazing to see. I know this program is making a huge difference in our family’s lives which is why we are all here.  As I travel home after the retreats, I catch myself smiling knowing that we made a difference in their lives.

Any other personal information you would like to share?

When I’m not with Project Sanctuary I am working on my own LLC called My Recreation Therapist.

My Recreation Therapist is a web-based tool that connects Certified and Licensed Recreational Therapists with anyone that wishes to bring recreational therapy into their continuum of care. I also work as a Marketing representative for Hilton Grand Vacations.  During my leisure time I love spending time with my children and new grandson. I enjoy hiking, horses, fishing and any other activities that get me outdoors. As a family we enjoy going out to shows and dinner or just stay home watching movies or playing games.

Thank you Jeanne for all you do for our Project Sanctuary families!
