Honoring Social Workers Month This March

Project Sanctuary is helping to honor Social Work Month in March by celebrating this year’s theme “Social Workers: Generations Strong” to honor the positive contributions of social workers over generations.  According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Social Work continues to be one of the fastest-growing careers in the nation, with more than 100,000 people expected to enter the field in just seven years.

You can find social workers literally everywhere in our society. For example, they are in schools helping students overcome life challenges, so students can get the best possible education. They’re in clinics, hospitals and mental health centers helping people recover; and in federal, state and local government pushing for legislation and regulations to improve quality of life.

Many people may not know social workers account for the largest group of mental health service providers in the United States or that the Veterans Administration is the largest employer of social workers with a master’s degree.

All branches of the Armed Forces use social workers to assist troops and family members in improving the overall quality of their lives. Project Sanctuary’s Family Support Program is run by Thomas Costello, LCSW, who has been practicing for 28 years, 22 of those years in uniform. Thomas uses his experience and understanding of military life stressors to network with veterans’ organizations and local resources to creatively assist Project Sanctuary families in all phases of participation. He also uses his mental health counseling skills with families on retreats to address the effects of post-traumatic stress and other issues Project Sanctuary families struggle with.

If you are need of Family Support services, feel free to email Thomas at [email protected].
